Visiting Otaria (August 27th Commander Nights)

This saturday we visit Otaria, the primary location for the Odyssey and Onslaught blocks. Otaria did not figure into any tales until after the Phyrexian Invasion (save for its northern subcontinent Tamingazin). It had survived that war relatively unscathed and was one of the first areas to recover and grow powerful once more. As a result, many of the survivors from other regions of Dominaria sought refuge on the continent. Despite all of this, many of Otaria's cultures were warlike and barbaric, ruling by terror and arena combat.

Our 1.5 multiplier will be for commanders with no activated or triggered abilities. And points will be the same as last week. (The points "should" change with Dominaria United's release, but there may be a small delay)

Building for Otaria

You're going to want to ensure you have plenty of instant and sorcery cards to take full advantage of being able to play them back from the graveyard, and in some cases even self mill; because filling your graveyard will be just as good as drawing cards. On the defensive side your going to want at least a few ways to interfere with your opponent's graveyard. (But remember, you will need to remove the cards from your opponent's' graveyard before they "cast it")

Extra Turns?

While yes, this weeks effect will allow you to take one extra turn during the game; it's extremely difficult to plan around. On each of your turns you can activate the extra turn ability and try to roll a 14 or higher, if you do, you can choose to take an extra turn, but keep in mind once you do actually take an extra turn from this effect you will be unable to activate the ability at all for the rest of the game. Also keep in mind that this ability cannot be targeted by abilities or spells you control (so no, you can't copy it).

Lady of Otaria in Dominaria United

While we had no idea we would see anything relating to Otaria in the newest set, we do actually have an awesome dwarf tribal avatar card popping up in the commander decks.

"You may tap three untapped Dwarves you control rather than pay this spell’s mana cost.

At the beginning of each end step, if a land you controlled was put into your graveyard from the battlefield this turn, reveal the top four cards of your library. Put any number of Dwarf cards from among them into your hand and the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order."
