Updating Curiosity’s Proxy Policy

We want to clear up some confusion around proxies and counterfeits, since the two often get mixed together.
Curiosity has always had a strict anti-counterfeit policy. That has not changed. Counterfeit cards are not allowed in the store under any circumstances.
At the same time, we are not anti-proxy.

We do allow playtest cards during unsanctioned Magic play. If you’re testing decks, playing casually, or jamming games outside of an event, proxies are fine as long as they follow our guidelines below.
However, if you are participating in a sanctioned event (anything entered into EventLink, including FNM), proxies cannot be used. This is a Wizards of the Coast rule, not a store preference.
Because of that:
- Players using proxies cannot be registered in sanctioned events
- Proxies are not eligible for promos or event rewards
- Proxy games do not count toward in-store event participation
If you still want to play during those times, you’re welcome to play casually outside of the event using proxies.
Proxy Guidelines
- Proxies must not imitate real Magic cards in any way
- Proxies must be clearly identifiable as proxies at a glance
- No realistic prints, no Magic backs, no attempts to pass as real cards
Playtest Printing
We offer simple text-only playtest proxies in-store:
- $0.50 per card
- $3 per page (up to 9 cards)
These are intended for testing and casual play only.
Counterfeits
Counterfeit cards are not allowed in the store at all. This includes casual play, testing, and sanctioned events. If a card is attempting to pass as real, it will be treated as a counterfeit.
If you have any questions, just ask. We want to support both competitive play and casual testing while staying within Wizards’ rules.
For reference, Wizards’ official policy requires all sanctioned play to use authentic cards and strictly prohibits counterfeit cards: https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/proxies-policy-and-communication-2016-01-14?utm_source=chatgpt.com
