Reintroducing Xbox One and Series X Titles
Nearly two years ago, we made the decision to halt trade-ins and new inventory for the Xbox One brand, focusing instead on systems that aligned with our values. However, starting December 1, 2024, we’re excited to announce that we’ll begin accepting select Xbox One and Series X titles again. This marks a step toward balancing our inventory to support our community’s needs while upholding our principles.
Our Stance: The Shift Away from Ownership
Both Sony and Microsoft seem to have lost their way, prioritizing profits over players. If you're a fan of their consoles and disagree with this perspective, we respect your opinion and ask that you respect ours. The push toward digital-only gaming—whether through streaming or buying intangible licenses—is marketed as convenience but, in reality, erodes your financial investment.
Digital distribution devalues your purchases, leaving you with nothing tangible to show for your hard-earned money. Worse still, it sidelines those who rely on pre-owned games to access affordable entertainment, making it harder for everyone to enjoy gaming without breaking the bank.
Physical Media: Still Worth Fighting For
Despite their missteps, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles still support physical media to varying degrees (e.g., Microsoft's partial options or Sony’s optional disc drive). While we strongly encourage financial responsibility, we also believe gamers shouldn't be penalized for these companies' poor decisions. That’s why we’re bringing back limited support for Xbox One and Series X games, alongside reduced support for PlayStation 5 titles.
What Does This Mean for You?
Preorders: We’ll continue offering preorders for both systems (let us know at least a month before a game’s release).
Member Benefits: Members enjoy guaranteed 70% trade-back value on games purchased within 30 days (minus sales tax) and earn 1 point for every $20 spent (approximately 5% back).
A Balanced Focus: Past, Present, and Nintendo
While we remain passionate about highlighting gaming’s incredible past, we also dedicate significant attention to Nintendo, including their newest titles. Nintendo has shown a commitment to fairness by ensuring digital and physical games are on a relatively even playing field—a dedication we hope continues. Whether you’re diving into the latest releases or exploring timeless classics, Nintendo provides a bridge between innovation and tradition, making them a key focus of our inventory.
For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, however, pre-owned games will not be displayed on our store shelves. These titles will instead be exclusively available through our online store, which can also be browsed via our in-store kiosk.
Additionally, please note:
PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X titles will not be eligible for future trade-in bonuses unless explicitly specified.
We remain committed to offering a wide selection of games to meet all kinds of gaming preferences, with an emphasis on what best serves our community.
In Closing
At the end of the day, it’s up to the players to decide whether Sony and Microsoft’s current strategies succeed. Our advice? Stick to physical media or invest in a PC. Modern consoles are essentially proprietary PCs, and most "exclusive" games are making their way to PC platforms anyway.
For those who believe in owning what you purchase, we’re here for you. We’ll continue to fight for physical media and advocate for gaming that values players’ investments. Thank you for supporting a store that shares your commitment to smart, sustainable gaming.
